Community Development

Concern India Foundation supports development oriented grass-root organizations who work on the issue of Community Development for the upliftment and empowerment of disadvantaged communities and vulnerable sections of society.
  • Communities are basically of two types:
    1. A Community that covers a fixed geographical area for e.g. a slum in a city, or a village in the rural area, or a tribal hamlet in the interiors of the state.
    2. A Community which is functional in nature. This means that it is a sizeable group of people who have common needs that require attention and which need to be addressed. For instance, the aged, persons affected and infected by HIV/AIDS, prisoners who need to be rehabilitated, mentally and physically challenged children and adults, unorganized construction workers, orphaned children of sex workers/ prisoners, women in distress, etc.
The focus is to motivate communities to address important issues and find sustainable solutions to their problems. This is done through a varied range of projects. which provide financial sustainability through improved livelihood opportunities such as resource management, micro credit enterprises, forming self-help groups, legal assistance to women in distress, shelter and day care services for the aged, capacity building through trainings and awareness programs.

  • The key areas under the issue of Community Development are:
    1. Awareness generation
    2. Capacity building
    3. Creating livelihood opportunities
    4. Formation of self help groups
    5. Natural resource management
    6. Remedial service
