Community Development
Concern India Foundation supports development oriented grass-root organizations who work on the issue of Community Development for the upliftment and empowerment of disadvantaged communities and vulnerable sections of society.
- Communities are basically of two types:
- A Community that covers a fixed geographical area for e.g. a slum in a city, or a village in the rural area, or a tribal hamlet in the interiors of the state.
- A Community which is functional in nature. This means that it is a sizeable group of people who have common needs that require attention and which need to be addressed. For instance, the aged, persons affected and infected by HIV/AIDS, prisoners who need to be rehabilitated, mentally and physically challenged children and adults, unorganized construction workers, orphaned children of sex workers/ prisoners, women in distress, etc.
- The key areas under the issue of Community Development are:
- Awareness generation
- Capacity building
- Creating livelihood opportunities
- Formation of self help groups
- Natural resource management
- Remedial service
