EDUCATION

Our education initiatives across India aim to provide equitable access to quality education for underprivileged and vulnerable children, including those of migrant workers, daily wage earners, children with disabilities and those living in slum communities. By partnering with grassroots educational institutions, setting up STEM labs and digital classrooms, strengthening school infrastructure and promoting skill development, we work towards bringing positive change in society. Our programmes focus on creating a nurturing learning environment and helping students overcome barriers to education, ultimately enabling them to achieve better learning outcomes and build brighter futures.

We recognise that students with disabilities form a diverse group with unique needs. Through our various initiatives, we promote inclusive education and vocational skills for children and youth with disabilities, enabling them to learn, grow and thrive.

Key Initiatives:
● Inclusive Education Support: We provide funding and resources to support special schools, including salaries for teachers, therapists and counsellors.
●Institutional Upgrades: Renovated and repaired institutions for children with visual and hearing impairments in Mumbai and Pune.
● Assistive Devices: Distributed hearing aids, digital tablets and customised learning resources to enhance classroom participation.

● Accessible Transport: Donated school vans and audiological vans to ensure early diagnosis and improved mobility.
● Mainstream Integration: Enabled successful transitions of students into mainstream schools.
●Vocational Training & Employment: Delivered skill-based training for youth with disabilities, with 80% securing sustainable employment.

Scholarship for students with disabilities was launched in 2022 in Mumbai and Pune. The initiative enables the youth to pursue higher education and build independent futures. Since its inception, the programme has empowered students through comprehensive support. In FY 2024–25 youth received scholarships covering college fees, hostel accommodation, travel costs, career counselling and adaptive technology, ensuring an inclusive and enabling learning
environment.

Girl Child Scholarship

Despite significant progress, many girls in India continue to face barriers in pursuing education due to entrenched social norms, early marriage and safety concerns. To address this, Concern launched the Girl Child Scholarship programme in 2018, providing scholarships and holistic support to bright, underprivileged girls from Class 8 to 10. The programme ensures access to education through scholarships and school fee coverage, strengthens their potential with academic and life skills support and builds long-term impact through career guidance and active parental engagement. We believe that investing in girl's education transforms families, communities and nations. Girl child scholars across Maharashtra and Karnataka benefited from the programme and are now pursuing sustainable careers.

Concern empowers deserving underprivileged students with timely financial and development support, enabling them to complete their education and build a strong career path.

Launched with 22 students in Delhi, the programme expanded to Bangalore and Pune, reaching 765 students across these cities. Scholars are supported in pursuing diverse degrees and professional courses.

Beyond financial aid, the programme offers holistic support through regular follow-ups, counselling, career guidance, material assistance, mentorship and performance monitoring, ensuring that each student's academic and personal growth is nurtured.

Scholars are pursuing studies at premier institutions like IITs, AIIMS, DTU, NSUT, Delhi University, NIIT Suratkal and Pune Institute of Technology. Graduates have secured placements in organisations such as Microsoft, Deloitte, Accenture, Samsung, L&T and Maruti Suzuki based on their merit.

The school refurbishment initiative is driving long-term change in the Indian education system by revitalising neglected school infrastructure and creating safe, inclusive and inspiring spaces for learning.

Across the country, many schools continue to operate in dilapidated buildings with inadequate sanitation, insufficient classrooms and outdated facilities. Through this initiative, we address these critical gaps by renovating classrooms, upgrading sanitation, improving access to clean drinking water and integrating modern learning tools and technology.

Beyond infrastructure, the transformation brings a renewed sense of dignity and motivation to both students and teachers. A well-maintained school fosters regular attendance, promotes inclusivity and enhances the overall learning experience. By investing in these spaces, we are not just improving buildings; we are laying the foundation for better educational outcomes and stronger communities.

Beyond Barriers
Considering the limited opportunities individuals with disabilities often have to express themselves and receive appreciation for their talents, Concern organises inclusive events such as Colours of Concern, Light Up Lives and Sport Meet for Children with Disability. These platforms celebrate the creativity and spirit of individuals with disabilities, giving them the stage to showcase their abilities through art, music, dance and colour. These events foster confidence, joy and a sense of belonging, while also raising awareness about the importance of inclusion and equal opportunity.

As the daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver, financial constraints could have limited my
education. Thanks to Concern India Foundation for the scholarship, with this support my grades improved from 79% to 94% and was also appointed as the Head Girl of my School.
Beyond academics, I received life skills training, counselling and discovered my
leadership potential. Aptitude testing opened new career paths from law to civil services
and event management.
This support gave me more than just financial aid - it gave me the freedom and
confidence to dream big.
