HEALTH

The health intervention programmes supported by Concern India Foundation focus on promoting health and well-being among people of all ages and genders through community-based interventions, promoting hygiene, safe drinking water, sanitation, preserving nourishment, providing access to therapeutic interventions for children with disabilities and strengthening health infrastructure in primary and sub-health centres. These programmes directly address the underlying causes of poverty, malnutrition and poor sanitation, which are major contributors to women, child and adolescent morbidity and mortality.

Moreover, Concern's health programmes have also adapted to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and continued to provide quality healthcare services through infrastructure strengthening and the creation of linkages to ensure accessibility to healthcare systems. Key programmes:
Strengthening of Health Care Infrastructure
Concern's collaboration aims to support breakthroughs that can drive patient innovation and wellbeing. With these goals and the support of key stakeholders, Concern focuses on upgrading hospitals and providing medical equipment to ensure help reaches the common man and innumerable patients of government hospitals and PHCs.

Hospital Infrastructure and Equipment
The Covid-19 pandemic exposed significant gaps in healthcare accessibility, making it essential to strengthen infrastructure holistically. Our efforts focused on upgrading the healthcare ecosystem - from enhancing laboratory capacity and diagnostic tools to improving equipment, data management systems and overall service delivery; to ensure timely and quality care for all.

We are proud to have collaborated with JJ Group of Hospitals, Sion Hospital, Rajawadi Hospital, K. Bhabha Hospital, KEM Hospital - Mumbai, N. M. Wadia Institute of Cardiology, Sassoon General Hospital, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Dehu Cantonment Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Hospital and Kamala Nehru Hospital (Pune), Sadhna Hospital (Delhi).

Strengthening Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs)
Building cabins, waiting area, digital tools, stable electricity, prefabricated cabins and solar-powered systems are integrated across several Primary Health Centres and sub-centres to streamline patient record-keeping, ensure uninterrupted power for critical medical functions and promote safety and sustainability through the installation of solar street lighting and solar power systems.

Ambulance support

To strengthen emergency response in rural and urban areas, ambulances are donated across Maharashtra and Telangana. These vehicles are ensuring timely medical intervention, especially in underserved and remote areas, and have become a crucial link in life-saving healthcare access.

Community Health Awareness
Awareness is the first step towards better health. Through Village Health and Development Programme, we work to bridge the healthcare gap in remote communities by promoting early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. Our health camps focus on detecting non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart conditions and visual impairment. We also address anaemia among children, women, adolescents and youth through targeted screenings, school-based interventions and nutrition sessions. By empowering ASHA workers for community outreach, we ensure sustained health education and access, improving long-term health outcomes for people of all ages.

Health and Hygiene for Adolescents
Adolescence is a critical stage of growth, yet many children from underprivileged backgrounds face barriers such as taboos, poor facilities and a lack of awareness. Suraksha addresses these challenges through a holistic health and hygiene programme in schools and communities.

So far, the initiative has empowered over 55,000 adolescents with knowledge and skills to navigate this stage of their lives with confidence. To support menstrual hygiene, sanitary pad vending machines are installed in schools, reducing absenteeism among girls. In addition, over 40,000 Suraksha kits are distributed, equipping adolescents with essential hygiene items.

By combining awareness with practical support, Suraksha is helping young individuals lead healthier, more confident lives.
